Kauanoe serves as Executive Director of the Maui MPO. He brings a decade of public administration and legislative experience and is particularly well-versed in matters involving indigenous rights, land use, and transportation.
Kauanoe joins the Maui MPO from the County of Maui Department of Transportation. There, he served as Deputy Director and was responsible for overseeing the department’s public transit programs. Additionally, following the devastating Maui wildfires on August 8, 2023, Kauanoe assumed the added role of Recovery Support Function (RSF) Coordinator in the County’s newly established Office of Recovery. As an RSF Coordinator, Kauanoe fostered cooperation amongst federal, state, county, and nonprofit partners to provide post-disaster healthcare and social services.
Kauanoe is an aliʻi in the Royal Order of Kamehameha I and founder of the Daniel K. Akaka Congressional Fellowship, a program to ensure Native Hawaiian engagement in federal policymaking. He has served on a range of boards and commissions including Common Cause Hawaiʻi, the Maui County Charter Commission, and the Maui Historical Society.

Wendy joined the Maui MPO in August 2023 as its Financial Specialist. Wendy comes to the Maui MPO from the Accounting Division at the Department of Water Supply, and a Budget Specialist in the Budget Office under the Office of the Mayor. Previously, Wendy was an Administration Analyst with Maui Electric Company, Ltd. Wendy brings with her years of experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, as well as general accounting principles and tax. Wendy holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
